Degree Requirements

Students seeking the Educational Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Complete 33 semester hours of graduate work beyond the master's degree in a planned program of study
  • Complete a minimum of nine semester hours cognate which consist of graduate work in Curriculum and Instruction in an area other than the area of specialization
  • Complete a minimum of 12 semester hours in the area of specialization (ESL, GT, SEED, ELED, MLED, RDNG, SPED)
  • Completed both EDFD 5013 Research Methods in Education and EDFD 5393 Statistics in Education and Health Professions and fulfill the requirements of the Master of Education core or its equivalent—the University of Arkansas M.A.T. graduates will have met M.Ed. core requirements
  • Complete original project, research paper, or report for which variable credit of three semester hours is required
  • Pass a comprehensive oral examination
  • Complete a residency of a minimum of 30 weeks of resident study.

The last 30 hours of the program must be completed within a period of six years from the date of the Declaration of Intent.
