Students must meet the admission requirements of the Graduate School. The criteria for admission to the Graduate School include an earned baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or from an institution with substantially equivalent requirements for a baccalaureate degree and with an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale on all courses undertaken prior to receiving the baccalaureate degree.
After receiving admission to the Graduate School, the Special Education Program faculty examines applications of potential candidates for admission to the graduate program. Those students wishing to pursue licensure in addition to the Master of Education in Special Education must possess an initial license in grades 4-12 prior to admission into the Additional Licensure Program. Upon acceptance to the Special Education Program, the student is assigned an advisor. Acceptance in a program area should be accomplished before the completion of the first graduate course if the course is to be accepted as part of the program of study for the degree program. Course work can be taken as either an online course or as an on campus course. The admission procedure is the same for both types of classes and admission to the Graduate School enables the graduate student to take either type of classes. The Special Education Program does not require students to take the Graduate Record Examinations, the Miller Analogies Test, or the National Teachers Examination as part of the admission process unless the Graduate School requests the test score for admission.
